There is evidence of Iron Age and Roman settlement in the Cobham area, and it was mentioned in the Domesday Book as "Covenham" meaning settlement on the curve of a river - in this case the river Mole. Cobham Mill has been preserved as a working mill, and the current red brick building dates from 1822, although there has been a mill on the site for many hundreds of years. At the centre of Cobham is the Church Cobham Conservation Area which comprises fourteen listed buildings including Pyports, Ham House and Cedar House.
